Bectu, CULT Cymru, the Cardiff Editors Network and the British Film Commission are excited to announce the launch of a pioneering research project aimed at understanding the mental health challenges faced by professionals in post-production in the TV, Film & the wider screen industry in Wales. This collaboration seeks to highlight the often-overlooked mental health issues that affect editors, colourists, sound designers, and other post-production workers.
The research, which will involve extensive surveys and interviews with professionals across the sector, will explore how the intense working hours, tight deadlines, and isolation common in post-production environments contribute to mental health concerns. The findings will help shape industry-wide strategies and provide practical solutions to improve well-being in the workplace.
Key objectives of the research include:
- Understanding stress factors: Identifying the primary causes of mental health challenges in post-production environments.
- Exploring industry practices: Assessing the impact of long working hours, freelance instability, and project-based work on professionals’ mental health.
- Providing actionable insights: Offering recommendations to employers, unions, funders, and the workforce on how to better support mental health in post-production.
The survey itself can be accessed via: Post-Production survey
Please share with colleagues in the sector / industry, many thanks!
